Extension table alignment problem

Hi, I'm trying to align everything on my MK7. When I align the table to the center of rotation it is out of alignment with the extension table by 3/16 of an inch preventing my tubes from fitting. Can anyone tell me how to get both of these to work at the same time? Thanks

I am assuming that you have successfully aligned the main table to the blade/quill shaft. Necessary!!!!

The auxiliary table should be mounted with 4 studs and a double set of nuts and flat washers.

The nuts are loosened and the table adjusted for left to right tilt, front to rear tilt, front to back positioning and rip fence rail to align with the main table rail. A LOT of possible frustration creation inherent.

A trick is to ONLY adjust the lower nuts then very carefully snug then tighten the upper set. A connecting tube can help get the rails aligned and the rest close. May take more than one attempt.

If you do not have the Owners Manual there is a couple of PDF's available to help guide you through the Alignment process. They are under the Maintenance and Repair section for Shopsmith Large Format Drawings, Illustrations and More by Everett Davis. This will be one of the first three topics. These will be on “My Google Drive” under Adjustments and Alignments. The PDF's are Help Kit Manual Alignment and 505-510 Alignment Document. The second is the alignment procedures from the Owners Manual but this one is for the 510 & 505. The alignment procedures for the 520 and Mark 7 are the same except they have extruded fence rails instead of tubes. The Fence rails need to be aligned first and there is a step gauge for doing that. These two documents will explain in more detail the directions JPG was giving you. In my Mark 7 Manual the assembly and alignment is section C pages C-1 to C-32. If you do not have an Owners Manual I recommend you get one.

The "dog bone" should not be directly bolted to the table. There should be threaded studs in the table that attach the "dog bone" to the table with nuts top and bottom as JPG said. A picture would help.

We are all assuming you were accurate when you stated you were dealing with a MK7. If you have an older model the 'dogbone' is indeed simply bolted to the table. Altering with studs and nuts/washers will get you what a MK7 has as described .

Lets back up a bit. Is you Shopsmith a Mark 7 as shown below.

Or is it a Mark VII from the 1960's as shown below.

If it is the newer Mark 7 as shown in the first picture the bottom of the Extension Table should look like the one Ed posted except for the blue paint. Nice color Ed. If so replace the missing nuts and washers before trying to align it. There should be 8 nuts and 8 washers.

Thank you all. Yes my saw looks like a Mark7 but it started life as a 5. I'll try putting in threaded rod like the photo and see if it gives me the room. David

Several years ago I got a 510 with a missing end table but got one cheap because it was the old model with the table bolted to the dog bone with a bunch of spacers. The first thing I did was set it up as JPG suggests but I probably didn't do anything else right or I would have seen something posted here. I used 1" straight dowel to line it up with the main table, then snugged them together with bar clamps so they were parallel and the height was equal on both. It was quick an easy. So, what was wrong with my thinking on this? I'm using some down time right now to do maintenance, cleaning and adjusting as needed. Do I need to readjust this?
