The high speed adjustment is in the manual.
I had a worn quadrant like that so I ordered a new one. The new one didn't work any more smoothly than the old one so I ordered the pinion gear too. The new quadrant and new pinion solved the binding problem on mine.
I think you made the right choice by ordering a complete quadrant assembly rather than just replacing one gear.

Good to hear. And, although I placed the order over the weekend, I got a notice today that it has already shipped! Yay!

Well, I finally have my Mk V/500 back in operation. Ended up replacing the control sheaves and the speed adjustment mechanism as well as both belts. It still didn't want to go slow but after taking it apart and putting it back together about 7 times, it's finally behaving right. Just in time as yesterday I received a used jointer that I bought on-line from a fellow (Bob Coe) in the FB Shopsmith Users group (he's probably on this group as well, would be my guess). Got it all cleaned up and got to try it out today. Works great. Now I can FINALLY get back to my projects. Thanks for everyone's help.
