Model 500 Saw Arbors

ShopSmith says No. Others say it is possible, but there are problems. I have ever only owned a 510, so I can knot say, as I only have arbors meant for the 510. I do knot believe that any one on this forum recommends doing so. I think that I remember reading posts that say the blade will hit something or the arbor will hit something, or that you will knot be able to use the lower saw guard, or...?

Hi Dave,

Sorry but it is not safe to use the shorter 500 arbors on the 505/510/520 machines. If you have extra sanding disks and want to use them in the table they will also have to be upgraded...

If you are planning to keep both machines (not at all a bad idea) then budget some money for new parts for the 510 and retain the bits you have that work with the older one.

My inexperience goes the other direction. I have never worked with a true 500 so I'll not comment.

However, if you have as good a deal as it sounds on the 510, I would snatch it up now. Arbors are not that expensive and you don't actually have to have more than one. All it takes is a couple minutes to change arbors when you have to. As times get better, arbor count can be increased and you are an all around winner.

GO BUY IT if you have room and a need.

Twenty two dollars each - how many do you need to outfit all of the blades you intend to ever have. I have six and two of them have not been mounted in years. To follow my advice, you would have to buy 3 because you already have. For a $66 future investment I would not let that Mark V get out of my sight. Furthermore, with a bit of frugal shopping you can beat the $66 investment.
