10ER Paint - 1625 Blue/Grey discontinued

Post by AlexK »

I just found out that Krylon* has discontinued the recommended color blue/grey (1625) and was wondering if anyone knows where it could still be in stock. I found out because I ordered two cans from MSC and received two different grey colors (even though the color code on both was 1625). I then ordered from Grainger and got one of the same incorrect ones I got from MSC.

I went on the Krylon* site and it's not listed anymore so I sent a message and they confirmed it's discontinued. Just to give it one more shot I ordered from Zoro so we'll see how that goes.

Are there any other color recommendations? I'd love to get as close to original as possible.

Thanks!

*Edited Rustoleum to Krylon

Check with local professional paint stores in your area. Chances are the Rustoleum color mix is known in custom mix circuits. There are companies who will mix quarts to spray with a gun, or even folk who will custom mix aerosol cans for you.

Rustoleum May can give you a Pantone color code or other that professionals can mix to. Gather that info now before it is more difficult to find.

If you prove that up, post the results here.

Sometime back I posted the traditional Green-Screen paint color for those into that arena as Sherwin Williams Flat Sparkling Apple. Far less costly than buying Green-Screen Specialty Paint.

Thanks Everett, that's probably what I'll have to do. I received my order from Zoro and it was the same (I think it's actually Machine Grey). Also to correct my first email, it's Krylon not Rustoleum.

I have used Rustoleum Charcoal Gray paint for all my Model 10 restorations. After trying several gray colors for my first restoration (10ER S/N R64000) I found it to be the closest match to the original paint color. It is a gloss finish and later I started to add a matte finish clear coat. I like the matte finish better. The Charcoal Gray comes out to a near perfect match compared to the original paint on the belt guard, blade guard, Miter, etc. I plan, at some point when I have the time, to touch up the paint on my original restoration and add the matte finish. Below is a more recent restoration with the matte finish.

Below is my first restoration with a gloss finish. The picture was taken shortly after it was restored. There have been some changes to it.

You can see the gloss shine on the Jig Saw belt cover area and the Belt Cover on the bench.

"As for paint, the best match to the original according to Skip Campbell the 10ER guru is Krylon Industrial Tough Coat. The paint is S01625 Blue/Grey and the primer for it is S00340 Grey. It is not easy to find. The big box stores do not cary it. I get mine from MSC Industrial. Their numbers for the paint are 84253772 and the primer is 02512317.

I have re-attached the photo he included of his done with that paint realizing that photo lighting can make paint colors vary.

Hope this helps

Thanks guys. Jsburger's is what I'm shooting for, it looks like my grandfather's did in the 80's when he was still taking care of it. I'd settle for something like Russ' grey, but it's not my preference.

My first purchase about a month ago was from MSC. They list it, but it's incorrect. And I didn't realize it until the window for return was closed. Grainger and Zoro both gave me a pure grey color also which is why I contacted Krylon. I'm still trying to find somewhere that has the correct color in stock and won't just give me bad substitution. The grey they gave me looks similar to Russ' and I think it's Machinery Grey.

This is what I got from MSC, actually two different colors with the same color code but different caps (confirmed they were different by testing them out). Neither one looks like what jsburger showed

Machinery Gray was one of the colors I tried when looking for paint on my first restoration. I did not like it as it was not that close to the original color. Let us know if you are able to locate the correct color and not a substitute color for the gray.

John,

Do you remember when you last purchased that color of paint?

The post that Everett quoted was from 2018 so it was before my post. I originally ordered 2 cans of primer and paint. I was satisfied with it so I ordered a case of each in that time frame. I have not ordered it since.
