I started on a golf ball version a couple of years ago. This is as far as I got:

Now I have to find the rest of the plans to be able to make them. When I dug the blanks out I also found these:

I made a batch but these have not been finished yet. I don't love sanding so I know why they are still in this state.

Guess I will never get everything done but it would be nice to finish off at least a few of these projects.

Well Ed I went ahead and did it. I broke the pool ball out of the holder and went ahead and drilled out a 3”x3” cube and have it soaking and will try after the appropriate time to get it in. I have jury rigged a vise (sort of) to press it in at the appropriate time. I will photo and post, if it works.

I think Ed made his squares while they were already IN the cage.

Those squares are the result of drilling in the six sides and leaving the middle of the block. I can't remember how many I made to give away but I know I had a few extras just in case. Now I wish I had written down who got them to see if I missed anyone on my list...... and I wonder what ever happened to that list.

The golf ball/pool ball thing is a different way to go, a combination of correct hole size and picking a wood that doesn't split too easy and a few other factors, a more difficult task. BTW I have read that if you can find wood that has not been kiln dried it works better.

Followed instructions, used 3” cedar cube and 1-7/8” Forstner bit let soak longer than required time and then boiled required time and block split when trying to get pool ball in block. Have to decide if it’s worth all the time necessary to try again.
