10er table fubar

Disassembled my table ,after buying the machine, to clean and paint the frame. It will be mounted on my 10er 13074 as a dedicated drill press. When mounted, the table wasn't level from side to side. Only thing I could think of was the table bearing (103-4) was upside down upon reassembly? Can't locate a pic of table underside that shows the "bearing." Could someone please post one? Thanks.

Sorry I do not have a picture of that handy but the "bump" goes up toward the table bottom. It is easy to put that on backwards (bump down) and I have done it too. If you really need a picture I can take one of the Model 10ER I am currently restoring and have begun some of the reassembling.

Yup, that is what I thought when I put my first one back together and did it wrong.

First a word of caution to M5...M7 (correction, M5..MV500) owners: The 10 bump is NOT the same as your bump. Your bump does face away from the table.

Note the location of the front pivot pin. It is towards the table relative to the mounting bosses. Same MUST be done to the rear, hence the 'bump'(bore for rear pivot pin) MUST face the table.

The picture below should help explain what JPG is referring to as far as the Rear Trunnions aka Table Bracket for Model 10's.

The Rear Trunnion or Table Bracket on the left is from a Model 10E and is the same used throughout the Model 10 production. The "bump" side goes up towards the table when reassembling the Model 10's. The Rear Trunnion on the right is from the Mark 5/V 500 original table system and has a casting "bump" on it but the Trunnion itself has the hole for the pivot pin centered unlike the Model 10 part. The casting "bump' is what JPG is referring to for the Mark 5/V. The Rear Trunnion on all other Mark V models (505, 510 & 520) plus the Mark 7 are different so none of this information applies to those models.

The picture below is the front Trunnion from a Model 10ER. Note the "bump" on the top where the pivot pin goes.

I believe that is what JPG is referring to in the quote. JPG will let us know if I have that wrong. Both the Front and Rear Trunnions must have the "bump" up facing the table to be even. The Front Trunnion can only go that way so the Table Bracket aka Rear Trunnion must do the same.

When reassembling the Model 10's table parts it is easy to attach it wrong. I started to do it wrong the other day on the 10ER I just finished restoring. You would think I would not do that after having commented about that here within days of reassembling it. It really seems that the Table Bracket aka Rear Trunnion should go with the "bump" down but NO it doesn't work correctly placed that way. When you compare the Front Trunnion and rear Table Bracket construction it is understandable why they both go with the "bump" up.

Adding to the confusion is the 'top' on the M5/V500 bump.

We would be remiss if we did not mention WHEN the 'top' is up!

The letters are there for whomever assembles the table to the trunion.

That assembly is performed with the table upside down(top of table resting upon a horizontal surface).

As the trunion is attached to the table. the bump needs to face AWAY from the table. Since the table is upside down, the bump must face up as the rear trunion 'mount' is attached to the table. So some assembly engineer decided to include the word 'top' when the rear tunion is cast. That flags the assembly person to attach the rear trunion with the bump facing up(away from the table).

Now the confusion enters when one considers the normal operation orientation of the table when 'right side up'. In that orientation, the bump faces 'down' away from the table and becomes the 'bottom'.
