Question about Jointer

I sprung for a secondhand Shopsmith jointer attachment on eBay. It's the first additional SPT I've purchased for this machine. It appears to be fairly complete, but I'm not seeing any support tubes to mount it on the frame of the Mark V. The eccentric couplers are there, though. Are the support tubes supposed to be purchased separately for the SPTs?

I'm also going to be needing a power coupling, but I understand that is normally an additional purchase item as well. Anything else I need to keep in mind before putting this to work?

The Jointer will mount on the headrest (left) end of the Mark V using the eccentric mounts, where your bandsaw is or was when you took pics when you got it home. There are no additional support tubes. It uses the same power coupler as the bandsaw, but you might need the hub that goes on the Jointer drive shaft if you don't have it. You also need a hub on the lower accessory drive of the headstock, not clear in your pics if you already have that.

SPT hubs are aligned to the headstock hubs vertically and horizontally to minimize stress on the coupler. Horizontal adjustment is done by rotating the eccentric in the mounts while loose in the SPT and Headrest. Vertical adjustment is held with setscrews. You might need more detail than this if you don't have a manual and have never done it, so feel free to ask.

Also check the safety equipment carefully. There are several versions, so post a pic if you have any questions on this part. Also note that the Jointer Quadrant is kind of a high failure part. Don't over-tighten it, others may have more pointers. It has two functions on one handle: fence angle and fence position (left/right). You engage/disengage those by positioning the handle forward, neutral, or back.

Keep in mind that the Jointer mounts lower than other SPT's. It is powered off the lower Idler Shaft not the upper Drive Shaft. So you don't need to be looking for long mounting tubes. Notice how close it is mounted to the Headrest in the picture below.

One nice thing about the Jointer is all the upgrades can be added to any Jointer except the dust chute cannot be added to the Model 4E Jointer made in 1953 for the Shopsmith Model 10's.

Are you referring to the very short MOUNTING TUBES?

The coupler hub is the 1/2" bore version.
