Changing extension table tubes

I do not think changing the tubes will result in any appreciable improvement. Pay attention to the clamp(s).

Just to clarify what is under discussion,this is a picture of the adjustable tailstock mod thad was posted by Geoffrey Baker (Tucson Guy) on the facebook group.

I gotta wonder if the clamp were 'adjusted' correctly if some of that slop being 'eliminated' would disappear if the clamp were set up properly. The pix seems to indicate only one end of the clamp is actually clamping the tube.

I agree with JPG that the clamp handle needs to be wore centered so the both legs are secured but I know from experience that this (by itself) will not eliminated the movement.

The to the FB solution - it should work to at least the same level of success as the wedges that suggest. Mechanically, they are the same principle. I would prefer not to drill holes in the legs.

Now I see what you mean by wedges in that thread. Looks like a perfectly good and simple solution.
