But since you mentioned it I think you did make a decimal place error above. Should be 2 ten-thousandths, I think.

I measured a motor output shaft and there was no change in diameter near the end, as expected. Less expected, at least to me, I measured it at 16mm. I measured it with two analog calipers because of the results with the first. The second calipers have both inch and metric scales which clued me in. I cannot currently explain the difference in our results. The motor I measured is an Emerson, the sheave matched.
The rotor shaft is 17mm and is machined to 5/8 at the rear bearing location and the output shaft.
That is why the Emerson requires two different bearings. 17mm output end and 5/8 switch end. The start switch stuff is 5/8.
