I have a problem with my Shopsmith. I bought it from some guy through a "For Sale" notice in the want ads of the local paper. He told me it was a 1953 Model, but now, thanks to technology, I see that is not correct. I have the same machine that is in the picture (20171202_211131.jpg) in this post. Can you tell me what model it is, where I can find an owners manual and where I can get replacement parts? My speed adustment bracket is broken.

What you have is a Shopsmith Model 10. Depending on the serial number it very well could have been made in 1953. If it was it would be a Model 10ER.

That picture is a Model 10ER.

That can be consistent with 1953.

I found the S/N. i was sitting right there in front of my face. Duh!
It is S/N 20393.
THe Serial Number chart i found on line shows from the 1954 model on.

Sounds like you saw the Model 500 serial number chart. For the 10ER your serial number indicates it was made in 1950.

Go to this site and open the 10E&10ER MAGNA folder:

Open the file '10ER Survey by Serial' to find the details on your machine.

Again welcome to the Shopsmith Forum.

About your Shopsmith Model 10ER S/N 20393. If it does not have a letter prefix in front of the serial number it should be a Model 10E (as stated on the Logo/Serial Number plate to the left of the S/N) made in the western plant and would have been made in 1948 or 49. If it has an ER prefix in front of the serial number it would be a Model 10ER (with Model ER on the Logo Serial Number Plate to the left of the S/N) and made in the eastern plant possibly as late as 1950. The first two pictures in the original post show one of Heath's Model 10ER's. It is either either 10ER S/N 13927, Born 1949, 10ER S/N 35630, Born 1950 or 10ER S/N 39722, Born 1950. Heath did not list the serial number prefix for his Model 10ER's but if all are actually 10ER's and not a 10E for S/N 13927 they should all have a letter prefix of ER, E or R depending on when and/or where they were made. There is no actual chart of when Model 10E and 10ER Shopsmiths were made. Only best guesses based on information gathered over the years. With that in mind I do not know where Heath came up with the Born dates for his Shopsmiths, although they may very well be correct.
