Interesting C-list find, Question

Post by JNewton »

So, looking at Craigslist the other day, I found this near Kansas City. Btw, dibs on it, if it works out. I trust you guys, I think. ;) :D

https://kansascity.craigslist.org/tls/d ... 07122.html

Look at the pics, right side. I wonder if the other adapter is lurking somewhere in that box?

It appears the owner tried to connect the jointer right to the headstock using the pulley adapter. I assume they didn’t end up using it because that will run the jointer too fast, and they didn’t have the lower motor mounted pulley. So, I would need that to make this work. Jointer appears to be missing the fence as well.

Basically, I’d really like the capabilities a bandsaw and jointer would bring to the table, just not sure whether I should look for a mark V (often found with one or the other on C-list in my area), or go through the process of sourcing the parts to make them work on my 10er. Will a bandsaw mount on the “A” adapter (I think that’s what’s in the picture?) Any experts care to weigh in?

It's kinda hard to tell exactly what the seller is selling. I see a Mark V 510, Power Station w/ Bandsaw, and Model 10. The add mentions Power Station twice and the pics seem to emphasize the Model 10. Seems like a good deal any way you look at it, but It would be nice to know what he is selling for $100. (I recently passed on a good deal on CL, only to find out later it was a great deal. In 0 pics was there any indication that it included a Pro Planer, which is the one thing I was looking for.)

For the Jointer - I see at least the main part of the fence and the safety cover in two of the pics. At worst it is missing the quadrant, but I think it is just poorly captured in the pics.

The 510 and power station are missing in some pictures (replaced by an atv  ). I assume it’s the 10ER, but good point. Thanks, I haven’t see a jointer up close so I wasn’t sure whether that was the fence in the box-o-parts or not.

With a 10, only the 'upper' shaft is available to drive SPTs and that pulley is correct. As for speed the jointer wiil be 'slow'. The mark 5/v lower shaft is 1.6x faster that the upper shaft.

I am unsure which SPTs can be mounted with that adapter(itself worth the asking $).

It doesn't look like to me like the B adapter is in the box. It is the A adapter on the machine. That is the correct one for the jointer. The adapter is to be able to use MK 5 SPT's with the Model 10. So the pictured configuration is correct. The jointer shown is a Model 620. That is the jointer with mounting tubes for the MK 5. The original Model 10 jointer was the 4E. It mounted on a special head rest and did not have the MK 5 mounting tubes. It was driven with a belt directly from the motor. This machine has the large motor pulley adapter for the 4E jointer but not the special headrest.

The band saw requires the B adapter. Individual adapters or the complete kit are VERY rare.

The first picture shows the 4E jointer and the special head rest to mount it. The second picture is the large pulley and shaft adapter to drive the jointer directly from the motor. The Craig's list has that pulley for some reason. That pulley adapter kit is also VERY rare.
I would give $100 in a minute for that machine.

That is the A adapter and is for the jointer and sprayer (compressor). Everything else mounts on the B adapter. Since he has the A adapter and the head stock pulley, the B adapter may be lurking some where.

It also appears to have the 4E jointer motor pulley adapter that is equally as rare as the SPT adapters.

Absolutely worth $100.

After looking more closely the machine does not have the 4E jointer pulley adapter. Sorry for the confusion I caused. :o

Oh, but the jointer would work as set up? Sorry, not sure if that got answered and I’m not reading between the lines enough.

Another question. Here are some miscellaneous pulleys that came with my 10ER. I’ve never been sure whether they are shop smith or unrelated. See anything that would be useful or that looks familiar or important?
