I like the new "modular" stack that you added to post #3!
My first thought was "You're halfway there, so why not do parallelogram hinges?" But after thinking about it, I decided that you were wise to use the single-link hinge. That way you can lay the modules out flat, and they won't get tippy.
AND additional modules are limited only by space(keep on stacking ....)
At this point the cherry added more weight!
