Yes, I'd found a number of ideas to use them otherwise. I just didn't want to jump the gun if they were still of value as blades. I already have a number of carbide tipped blades, so no issue there. They would be the only 1-1/4 arbor blades I have though.

I like welding up odd creatures from old scrap metal, so they won't be wasted if nothing else.

Backing up what John said the original Shopsmith, the Model 10's, used 8" Saw Blades with a 5/8" arbor hole on what was the predecessor to the current 505506 Molder/Dado Arbor previously known as the Universal Arbor or originally simply the 5/8" Arbor. When the Mark 5 was introduced in 1954 it came with a 9" Saw Blade with an 1-1/4" arbor hole and the new 1-1/4" Arbor. To use standard 5/8" arbor hole blades you would use the universal arbor. Below is a 5/8" arbor with an 8" saw blade on my Model 10ER with a Mark 5 lower blade guard.

One of the reasons these arbors came with the machined spacer and 2 washers was to accommodate different thickness items mounted on them.

I also show this picture which has the Mark 5 Lower Saw Blade Guard as an example of one that is still easily found for sale used and with the upper guard will work better than the one made for the Greenies and other early Mark 5's which allow only the use of a 9" blade or smaller. This guard set simply attaches to the Quill. The downside of this guard set (P/N 505627 upper & 505628 lower) is the upper guard is cast aluminum, so the cut is not visible like it is with later clear plastic upper guards. You can upgrade to the later Guard Set with the clear upper guard but that requires modifications. Below is what that complete Guard Set looks like.
