We're not being critical of you Adam, if anything we're put off by this video presenting wrong, and possibly dangerous information. You did the right thing and came here to ask about it. Welcome aboard!

This thread, and in particular that YouTube video, exactly make my point that I brought up not too long ago on this thread (viewtopic.php?p=289998#p289998). There really aren't any "gatekeepers" out there for online woodworking content. IMHO this is one area where this forum excels over other online content. Usually this forum converges on the truth and/or best practices. Sometimes it is overdamped and sometimes underdamped, but typically it converges in a reasonably short time. How are new woodworkers or those new to Shopsmith equipment supposed to know when they stumble upon a new YouTube channel that they are getting accurate information? JMO

Oh, wouldn't that be nice...if every thread on this forum was critically damped. Might get world peace before that happens!

Thanks. Unfortunately no luck yet. It will rotate on the shaft but I haven't gotten it off yet.

Possibly burrs, as mentioned earlier, or corrosion. If you still want to get it off, you can take the setscrew all the way out and use the hole to apply some penetrating oil. Let the oil sit in there overnight. Twisting and pulling will likely get it off. Personally, I'd leave the knob on unless doing a bearing change. IIRC the part is not available separately and dimensions vary with different quill versions. You don't want to damage it unnecessarily.
