It is a fairly thick piece of cast iron. I think the the weakness is in the brain of the user that keeps cranking on the screw until the part breaks when the table is not moving. The table moves very easily when things are properly maintained.

Although I cannot say for sure, I believe trying to raise the table without releasing the locks may be the cause of this type of break. Something has got to give.
