It was just confusing to receive advice that had nothing to do with my 1984 Mark 500. So now I have adjusted the knives on my jointer.
As mentioned in prior posts, just saying "it's a 1984 model" is not sufficient to uniquely characterize it. It's possible to upgrade it to be functionally indistinguishable from a brand new straight out of the box 2024 Mark 7, and/or anything in between what was built 40 years ago and today. 40 years is a long time so assume nothing on your machine is 100% original. Verify everything.
I still don't understand what you meant when you said you "adjust the blades to 1/8 cutting height." Can you elaborate?
