Dado arbor hex nut
Good morning
I’m looking to purchase some 5/8 hex nuts that I believe go with the dado arbor.
Does anyone have a part number or a source to pick up a few?
Thanks…. Steve

Re: Dado arbor hex nut
I know I have the part number somewhere but cannot find it right now. The Shopsmith catalog part of this site lists "Item Not Found" for the two part numbers I did find for the Molder/Dado Arbor P/N 505506. P/N 501451 is for the 5/8” Machined Washers .626ID 1.50OD and P/N 501453 is for the 5/8” Arbor Spacer. You could contact Customer Service for help or try to find replacements for them locally.

Re: Dado arbor hex nut
Yeah, you need one of those special washers with the internal tab. Those nuts (and the shaft) are high grade but fine threaded. If you don't order them from Shopsmith I think you should use a grade 8 fine threaded nut. They're probably not cheap from any source.

Re: Dado arbor hex nut
Thanks to all…. I did find a grade 8 5/8x18 at Tractor Supply for about $3.00 each, that will fit what I’m attempting.
THANKS….. Steve….

Dang! That is great price. But is it fine threaded? If not i I'd run a tap through it. That weird washer is your locking mechanism.

The weird washer is called a spindle washer. It can be found in an automotive store or on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000R ... UTF8&psc=1

Looks like a tongued washer to me.
Yes they are used on axle spindles.
