I am guessing the od measured at the v-groove location is the same on both. That is the only od that matters.
The motor shop needs to be aware that the two bearings have a different inner race id.
Yes, I measure the OD for both of them at 1-29/32".
Interesting information about the different size id on the motor bearings. Glad I didn't buy a set yet. All the motor bearings I've seen up for sale are for a set of two identical sized bearings. Thanks again!

Re: Dad's 1982 Shopsmith Mark V Repair/Restoration Project
It's been wet and raining here in Baton Rouge this morning so I took a break from sanding and priming my Mark V parts. I took the opportunity to look through some of the documentation I had when I came across this envelope from Shopsmith regarding a "Important Safety Message". The first thing I saw was a sheet of warning decals for all the major Shopsmith accessories! It was accompanied with a letter from John Folkwerth detailing the purpose of the labels and explaining the requirement for using a spacer for users continuing to use the aluminum saw guard. It's funny that I came across the warning labels when I did because as early as last night I've been trying to find a label or find a way to print one myself for the blank caution label regarding the use of the speed control. Unfortunately, the label I need wasn't among the ones I found! I've included images of the envelope and its contents...

You can also go to picresize.com and it will allow you to flip the orientation as well as reduce the pixel count to make the image smaller.

Re: Dad's 1982 Shopsmith Mark V Repair/Restoration Project
I don't know when Shopsmith Inc. sent out the warning label packet, but it apparently went to all registered Shopsmith Owners. Probably only those that bought from Shopsmith Inc. beginning in 1973. I have the packet myself from one of the Shopsmith's I restored. It's too bad it didn't include the Headstock labels since they tend to get "worn off" over time.

Re: Dad's 1982 Shopsmith Mark V Repair/Restoration Project
Hey, just an update on my progress. I am still waiting on SS to send my parts and paint. I'm not really sure what takes them so long to process and ship an order. I called them last week and they told me they were going to go ahead and ship my first pending order without a spring that they were waiting on but still no word on a shipment! I wish they'd get the lead out: I'm really ready to move forward with the rebuild!
Anyway, I have pretty much finished priming and prepping the painted surfaces. I started to work on cleaning and polishing the bare aluminum parts and the way tubes. I had to buy a new switch because I broke one of the tabs on the original moving things around. Also bought a new set of casters to replace the original ones.
I received the replacement caution labels that I ordered from Avery. I had them printed on a clear background so I can put them over the original silver background still affixed to the headstock. I ended up with 48 labels so if anybody needs one for their machine, just PM me with your address and I can send you one. They were all printed with the reference to Page 2 of the owner manual since that's the appropriate label for my era machine.

Re: Dad's 1982 Shopsmith Mark V Repair/Restoration Project
It looks like you are making good progress.
In the past Shopsmith has had a habit of holding an order until it was complete before sending it out. That meant if there was an out-of-stock item in the order it waited until that item was back in stock. I have called Customer Service when this has happened to me to get the in-stock items sent and the out-of-stock items sent later.

Re: Dad's 1982 Shopsmith Mark V Repair/Restoration Project
That’s exactly what I did, ask them to ship without the spring that was holding things up, last Thursday. I didn’t get any shipping notification so I called today to check on the order status again. The rep told me that my first order had shipped. UPS delivered the package about 10 minutes ago. The order included the tie bar latch spring that was supposed to be back ordered. However, the spring doesn’t look like the one that I took off or like the illustration or in the exploded parts view or like the used ones I’ve seen on EBay! One third of the spring looks stretched out. So, I don’t know if it was damaged in manufacturing or if Shopsmith is making progressive springs for that assembly now or what. The one I took off was broken into three pieces so maybe it is a new design: I don’t know. I’ll include a picture here to see if it looks “normal” to you or not. If u can’t sort it out here, I’ll e-mail customer service tomorrow.
By the way, I’ve had to post this from my cell phone since I haven’t been able to logon using my laptop for most of the afternoon. I keep getting the error “The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again”. I wonder if anyone else is having the same issue? Also, I could not find any way to contact the forum administrator at all on the forum.
Well, glad my order showed up. Hoping to get things moving again!

Here’s a side-by-side comparison of the original, broken spring and the new replacement that I received today. Looks like they forgot to cut it to me… idk…
