You are fortunate to have the metal idler pulleys. Take good care of them.

If you may need to use it with the internal sanding belt arrangement, I recommend you get one of the current plastic pulleys since then one pulley face bears against the abrasive side of the belt.

As for that mystery slot - Only the shadow knows. I do not.

We have scrap drops/extra stock of UHMW at work I am going to make a couple of spares.
I will leave the Metal wheel in the back for outside sanding setup.

Hopefully some of the literature you received includes a copy of the Strip Sander Manual. Yours is currently set up for internal sanding having the one Idler Wheel below the top Tracking Wheel instead of its normal position at the back near the same level as the lower Idler Wheel.

I didn't get a manual.

I did get the Metal wheels disassembled.

The Woodworkers Prayer is one I have received in documents with used Shopsmith purchases too.

Adding an extra Idler Wheel to have one in each of the three positions would be a bit of a time saver when switching from normal sanding to internal sanding. I don't believe having an Idler Wheel in the upper internal sanding position would interfere with normal operations. Interesting that the service parts list has the Idler Wheel (ref # 17 and part # 516399) itself as unavailable.

Unfortunately, the Strip Sander Manual is not in the list of Manuals and Instructions available here on the website for download or purchase. The PDF attached below is the parts list and drawing for the strip sander. It is the same drawing you see in the service parts section here on the Shopsmith website.

I can verify that having a new plastic/bronze sleeve bearing pulley in that upper location will NOT interfere with 'normal' operation.

Do I dare mention that they came with three platens? 37, 38 in the parts list above.

After you metioned the internal sanding.

I started the net search and I seen those on the Tube.

That is now a Must Have.

I have to search for More material at work tommorrow.
