Bandsaw Pulley

New to me bandsaw. Also, I'm new to the forum.

Questions:

Why are my images sideways?

Is the belt on the correct pulley? What's the other pulley for?

What year was this saw made? There's no serial number.

There's no peephole for blade tension viewing. Okay if I cut one? Anyone have a picture of one that's been done well?

The two pulleys give you a choice of speeds. Only recently made bandsaws have a hole for tensioning. You'll need a window also so you can see the tension gauge without taking the side cover off. Here's an example of a DIY window: viewtopic.php?p=182706#p182706

You can also but a new bandsaw cover with the hole, window, and dustport: https://www.shopsmith.com/product-page/ ... -dust-port. A dust port only upgrade is available also: https://www.shopsmith.com/product-page/ ... dust-chute

Your images are shown in the default orientation detected. Why that is depends on how you took them or edited them before uploading.

I took the pics oriented vertically, and resized them the same way. Must be some setting I need to fix.

The forum sw ignores the orientation metadata and assumes/displays horizontal. So to prevent rotation, always take in horizontal.top up orientation.

As I said in the other thread,

Your Bandsaw was made sometime between 1973 and 1992. The serial number would help give a closer time to when it was made.

Without the serial number it's hard to tell beyond that.

Since 1973 the serial number has been on a sticker like the ones shown below. It is most commonly found in that location on the Main Frame. Later Bandsaws after Date Coding replaced serial numbers the sticker location varied.

This Bandsaw was made April 10, 1991

Although the sticker above says SER. NO. 041091 it is a Date Code and made April 10, 1991.

There were not any changes made to the Bandsaw between 1973 and 1992 that by looking at it would narrow it down any more than that.

As for adding the slot and window in the Cover for tension adjustments there was a recent post by GetterDone on adding it to his older Bandsaw at the link below.

He used the actual "window" Shopsmith uses in the current Bandsaw Cover.

The Current Cover was just on sale but does go on sale from time to time. That would also give you dust collection.

A clear plastic window is not required. If you are using dust collection air is going in through to open hole and out through the duat collection port.
