There are picture in the beginning of the thread. The surface had a few deeper grooves over the entire length. Looks like someone tried to run a board through with a nail in it. I could have tried to buff it out, but 1mm deep can be still an issue. And because I'm already deep into replacing all bearings and repainting it, I decided to fix the issue with a new skin. I did a test without skin, but that did not work at all. The surface of the aluminum table is brushed for best adhesion of the stainless plate. Polishing this would have taken more time than the new skin took. This is just a proof of concept - it is possible to recreate parts that Shopsmith can not deliver.

I missed the scratches - I can see why you replaced the SS cladding. Looks much better now.
