It's in the 2nd response.
I tried to post it but my Computer would not let me.
It wants me to pay for stuff.

Since you now have 1 Model 10E and 3 Model 10ER Shopsmith's you may start to notice some differences in the parts. The biggest changes were in the Headstock Casting itself which has 7 different versions and the most changes of all the parts. These are sometimes very small changes but changes none the less. A major change occurred for the Model 10ER in April 1951 with the change from Double Wedge Locks on the Headstock and the Carriage to Single Wedge Locks. It is the changes made throughout the production of the Model 10's that owners have to be careful to make sure that when parts are needed that they get ones that are compatible. There are parts that did not change throughout the Model 10 production like the Arm for the Base end of the Bench. Some changes are harder to see like the Way Tubes changing to a thinner wall tube near the end of production. Those are the same Way Tubes used for the Mark 5 when it was introduced in 1954.
Out of the 11 Model 10E and 15 Model 10ER Shopsmith's I have owned/own the serial numbers range from 1033 to 101291. Some with the "R" serial number prefix but none with the "E" or "ER" prefixes. Serial number 1033 is from the first ones made in 1947 and 101291 was made near the end of the Model 10ER production in 1953.
In your pictures 3, 4, 6 and 7 there are knobs in strange places.
Pictures 3 & 6 have the Carriage with a knob (in pic 3) in the hole on top of the Carriage which that threaded hole is for the Table Riser Crank and pic 6 has a knob used for the lock.![]()
Picture 7 has a knob being used for the Way Tube Lock on the Headstock and pic 4 has what looks like the rear lock knob for the Rip Fence in the hole for the Belt Cover bolt.![]()
All very odd since those Knobs in incorrect places. In pictures 3 & 4 they are not at all functional there but the Knobs used for locks in pictures 6 & 7 may work as Way Tube Locks for the headstock and Carriage.![]()
Thanks for this info.chapmanruss wrote: Wed Jan 01, 2025 4:00 pm Out of the serial numbers you list for three of your Model 10's you should have Headstock versions 2 and 3 maybe even 4. E-3868 should have a Wood Extension Table originally while the other two should have come with metal Extension Tables. E-3868 would have Tailstock version 2 and the other two have version 3 out of the 4 versions.
The Knobs used on the Model 10's changed over the years too. I can't identify where the knobs used for the Headstock and Carriage Way Tube Locks came from. They may not even be and likely are not Shopsmith Knobs.
