10ER Lathe Extension

I don't like using the hot wrench.

But this thing was not playing Nice.

My carriage lock is on the mail truck heading to me today.

Along with another Long extension table knob.

So, I only lack a few things and a little more cleaning and stuff.

Here are a few pictures of my E bay purchase.

Thanks to Russ / I knew what to search for.

I found the Tapered carriage lock and I am Glad.

Also got some extra long carriage lock bolts/ studs.

This would have Taken a Minute to make.

I am still debating on making one of these in Bronze Since I have a pattern now.

The original Lock Wedges for the Headstock and Carriage were brass on the first few thousand Model 10E's. That soon changed to the Alloy Wedges most commonly seen. As for the reason they changed from the Brass Wedges to the Alloy Wedges is anybody guess. Cost may have been a factor or maybe they decided the softer Alloy Wedges provided a better locking grip. In any case I would recommend staying with the softer Alloy Wedges.

Yes I think the softer wedge will deform under load that makes it a more effective clamp. I see the brass as an effort to have it become the wear susceptible part, but the softer metal was an improvement on that.

I will use this one the carriage I bought from E bay for the table extension.

Well, I got a Little more done.
After second bath.
These tubes are (Close to being Ready)

This is the other (spare parts) tube that will be cut in half.
It needs a 2nd bath.

Second bath after scraping it will be a Little better.

Other side of this/ I will take a wetstone and smooth this after 2nd bath.
