My second 10ER - Restored!

Gentlemen, my sincere Thank You for this thread and what you've told me, shown me and helped me with this project. No where near done but the photos and encouragement have lead to an excitement that I've not had in a while.
That Evapo-Rust is unbelievable and I could only get about 2.5 uses out of the same liquid before there was no more reaction, so for same $20 I got about three gallons worth of use! Given time this morning I will try the freeze plug method of turning those tubes for cleanliness.
I did lose heart when the tie bar broke in two and I found out that it probably not weld up true due to the properties of cast iron, but that simply means I will search for another while I move forward on the rest of that beautiful beast.
Anyway, thanks again and I'll be lurking about gathering all this great info.

You should be able to get a tie bar on eBay with very little difficulty. In a pinch, you could make one out of hardwood. A single piece of wood with two holes of the right size cut in it at the right spacing. Or two strips with appropriately sized semi-circles, one on top of the tubes, one under the tubes with a couple of bolts to clamp them together.

Keep us updated on your progress! Take pictures and document the process. I love seeing these old machines being brought back to life.

Shucks. Glad I lived long enough to find other as excited about this old piece of rusted almost junk as I.
The wet stuff looking stuff is unfreezing juice just sitting & waiting.
Oh, and the tail stock looks and acts like it's made out of iron, contrary to what the some Ebay guy states about his $11 piece (mine's not steel but I hope his is)

Len, I know what you mean about fixing up old rusty tools. This will be my third project. Looks like you have more ahead of you than me. Here is what I am starting with. [ATTACH]4474[/ATTACH]Will let you know how it comes this summer as I work on it. Still want to rebuild a Greenie someday but not having luck in finding one at a good price around here yet.

You Guys are making me wish I had stayed at an 'estate' auction that had a rusty 10 e/r. One look at it sent me out the door. I was hoping for a later 'model'.
Next time I WILL stay and bid! I do NOT know what it went for!

Rob, I ordered the tie bar from the fellow off of Ebay.
That is most gracious of you and I am moved. Thank you for the consideration.
But now the "cheaty" part. I am now in the process of deciding to take this 10-ER in a different direction. I received my OPR, from the recent sale, and would like to dedicate more time and space to it. With the tie bar and the base I can attach it to a wall in the garage for a permanent fixture. Although I am having minor problems with the set up, that will be taken to another thread after I search around the website. I can see the potential of this addition but will not dedicate a whole machine. As I got this machine for free from a professional cabinet maker who used it for boring only, and as it has no table, and I've been told the motor works but the cord obviously needs replacement, my rationale to this group is that if I go through with this project then all your 10ER's will increase in value, yes? As there will be one fewer.

I'd rather see another ER restored and usable than eliminated/parted out and causing the value of mine to increase.
