Oh, I didn't mean to be critical of LEN and his decision in his situation. I was just stating that, as an ER owner, I'd rather there be MORE ERs out there than my machines become more valuable due to increased rarity. LEN: How WAS it used as a drill press WITHOUT the table? Home brew table built around it?
These old machines are absolutely amazing to me. He used it only for the horizontal boring machine part, which had it laying down and, I suppose, grinched it to hold his stock. Attached the whole thing, as received. There is nothing at the other end of the bars. I've got to keep some pieces for stabilization, so I'll let you know how she goes. And thanks for the interest.
If you are serious re mounting to wall, consider using TWO Mark 5/V tie bar. They are shorter(closer to the wall). Mount then so the clamp socket faces AWAY from the wall. Between the Base Plate, the Tie Bar and maybe the carriage which is just about the whole set up that I received, I figure that would stabilize the tubes such that movement could not occur. And then tie it to the wall. But I don't understand "clamp socket". I'll look in the manual later, as I've got to get some yard work done now that lunch has digested. The 'clamp socket' is on one side of the tiebar, and the clamp which holds the tie bar end of the way tubes engages it. It is shown in the pix below. The other side is obstruction free. Ignore the bolt/nuts.
