Carter Side Bearing measurements
Hi Guys, This question is for anyone that owns Carters Side bearings. I would like to know the Outside Diameter of the Bearing and Thickness and also the thickness of the triangle piece the bearings are mounted to. This would help me out greatly. I looked all over their website for more information than what is provided with no luck. I email them and also have not received a reply. Thanks Josh

I have the Carter Guide Bearings on one of my SSs as well as a Delta bandsaw and this is how I set mine:
1. Back off upper and lower inboard and out board bearings and rotate the blade a time or two by hand.
2. Set the upper and lower inboard bearings to just touch the blade.
3. Set the upper and lower outboard bearings to just touch the blade.
4. Rotate the blade by hand a time or two to make sure the blade weld goes through the bearings smoothly.
Now having given you my way of setting the Carters for better or worse go order a set of the Ceramic Guides from Bill Mayo and save your self some money. I have posted several pics of both setups in past threads and I think several of the folks have tried both setups with good success.

Maybe I should re word this question. I am looking to build my own side bearings and I dont feel like paying for the Carter setup when I have the ability and tools to build my own. I have some (50 to be exact) 1/4 x 3/8 x 1/8 inch bearings rated for 42,000 rpms. Im trying to figure out if they simular to the Carters. I would just go throw them up against bandsaw but I am out of country. When I get home I would like to throw these up on the mill and have at it. Just looking for bearing size and the thickness of the triangler piece the bearings are mounted to.
Idh thanks for explaining how you adjusted them. It will make installing them a little easier. Josh
I promise to post pictures when I am done and of the build.

Josh,
This is a pic of the top Carter Guide Bearings on the SS and I am using a 5/8" blade. You will need a SS Guide Block Bracket #5025779 to get all of your measurements. The #5025779 fits the top and bottom of the saw. This should give you a relative size of the components.
