Hi,
The 3/4" by about 2" stem on my 10ER lathe tool rest broke. Can someone reassure me that I can use a Shopsmith 5 tool rest.
Also if you have one you want to sell I am very much in the market.
This is just the very top of the tool rest where you actually put your hand on like in this Ebay auction:

How about just getting it welded back on?
SS 500(09/1980), DC3300, jointer, bandsaw, belt sander, Strip Sander, drum sanders,molder, dado, biscuit joiner, universal lathe tool rest, Oneway talon chuck, router bits & chucks and a De Walt 735 planer,a #5,#6, block planes. ALL in a 100 square foot shop.

Weld tool rest stem
That would be excellent because I would not have to wait a week for another tool rest to be sent BUT would it be safe? Has anyone else done this. I am pretty abusive on this thing because I am brand new to turning. It is broken off right where the stem connects to the rest itself.

Hi, My 520 tool rest post is 3/4" in diameter, and about 1 1/4" long. Woodcraft has a tool rest system that has posts in various diameters and lengths. Their 3/4" post would fit my 520.
