I have spend far longer on this issue than I should have. That is to say, "I should have resolved this almost immediately".

I have come to the conclusion that I have two problems working simultaneously. That along with some invalid assumptions.

The symptoms did not exist a couple days ago. So, what happened.

SAeveral of you have touched on the problem with great insight. Bent blade, loose arbor, thrown carbide, loose blade - all were good suggestions.

Ed in Tampa, You got me to thinking. While I was working on the saw dust problem, I noticed that the table was no longer square to the blade. With the blade protruding through the insert (ZCI) I loosened the table tilt lock to square it up. It was tight and I had to use some force. With the rip fence still mounted, I lost control of the table and exerted some pressure on the blade (tilting the table) and I might have bent the blade some.

Also, I recall that on occasion I find the arbor set screw a little loose. So, I checked all the set screws to see if I could properly losk the arbor to the shaft.

What I have to show now may be at least part of my problem. I found three of these in my arbors (not the conical on the right). Which one is correct?

I vote for the one next to the cone point. I do not recognize the second from the left. The serrated cup one on the left is absolutely NOT a 'correct' one for use in an arbor.

I have resolved the issue but have NOT solved the problem.

I changed arbor and blade to a recently resharpened blade and I have a good clean cut. This resolves the issue.

If I put the suspect blade and arbor back on, I have the rough cut which seems to get worse toward the end of the cut. The cut off is not perfectly clean but would be usable. The material between the blade and the fence is where the blades marks are bad.

I attempted to do a tooth for tooth run out analysis but have not completed that successfully. I do however see evidence that the blade might be bent. A segment of the blade is .006" - .008" different than the rest. I did NOT find a single tooth that was way off.

Fortunately, I have a spare blade so I am not out of service. I am not ready to just scrape this blade. I want to know what happened.

Like I said earlier I have a new blade that did exactly the same thing. I took the blade back.

However I know adjustment and alignment will do the same thing. The fact that is toward the end of the cut makes me think it may be fence alignment.

I understand what you are saying and normally I would hop right on it.

But this happens now, with only one blade/arbor combination. Furthermore, I have just done an alignment verification. I did not realign but I verified the entire procedure.

Ed, I am really beginning to believe that when I had that little slip with the loose table tilt lock that I bent the blade ever so slightly.

I have a big project coming up very soon. I'll be ripping a bunch of maple and I'll find out then - for sure.

I'm convinced if your alignment checks out then in fact the blade evidently did get bent. Hope it wasn't a good blade.

If it was new one is there any chance it was a Delta blade?

No, It was not a Delta. It was a new Shopsmith Conbination that I purchased just a very short time before Shopsmith changed to Amana for their blades. I did get some good use out of it and it was definitely put through the paces. Maybe it was time.

All of my other blades, except one Systematic, are also Shopsmith. I guess it might be time for me to change.

Frankly I like Shopsmith blades. My sharpener seems to like them also.
I don't have any of the Amanda blades so I can't speak for them.

If I was switching blades I would go to Infinity and try their blades. If they are half as good as their router bits they would be fantastic blades.

Do knot take this personally. But why change because of user error??
I'd should change also, I had a tooth break off when the blade fell on the concrete floor.

When I said it was time to change I was talking about getting a new blade and discarding the old. My mention of getting an Amana was a declaration that it was time to put in a Shopsmith order. Rereading what I wrote, I can definitely see that I did not communicate my thoughts.
