FWIW, I use one of the 5/8" arbors and use non shopsmith 10" saw blades without difficulty or incident. I also use another arbor to fit up my non-shopsmith dado blade set.

The arbors were orded and came quickly from Shopsmith.

navycop,
the metric for 1 1/4" is 31.7 and 5/8" is 15.8

BTW, where did you hear that? Call to place your order and ask if the blade is available now. Or if the saw arbor is available now.
I've had friends with stories of delayed parts, but nothing too bad. But then my mom had a problem...

My mom had ordered parts a year ago for my dad's christmas present. They came late and were missing parts. She called and emailed trying to get the problem sorted out, but never was able to get it fixed. Finally, after 6 months, she returned the product and hasn't ordered since. I am afraid to go through the same hassle.

I feel that your mom's experience is the exception rather than the rule.

I've switched out all my SS saw blade arbors to 5/8". I use all thin Kerf blades. On my SS with a 3/4hp motor I buy Freud 9" blades with 5/8" arbors. On my SS with a 1-1/8hp motor I buy Freud 10" blades with 5/8" arbors. I find the SS 1-1/4 saw arbor really limits my blade options.

What do you find to be a typical price for a Freud 10" blade?

I'm spending $45 to $90 for the Freud blades I buy. My 9" plywood are running $50 and the 10" plywood are $90. I watch for sales and buy only Freud blades rated excellent by Freud for the type of cut and wood I'm going to use it for. I have 3 blades that I switch between the 2 ShopSmiths and 3 for my cabinet saw. Rip, Crosscut, and Plywood.

When I'm building cabinets I use all 3 saws. 1 SS for dado work, 1 SS for Crosscut work, and the cabinet saw for everything else.

I also run a 7-1/4 inch Freud plywood blade ($50) in my Circular saw that I dedicate to breaking down plywood. I get almost zero tear out. It was well worth the money to me.

Good info to know.. I was recently cleaning out a workshop in a rental we have that I'd not looked in for ~5 years and took home a brand-new 7" Forrest (if I recall) saw blade (not sure of the arbor size -- probably 5/8) and also an older Oldham stacked dado set that's never been used.. I'll have to check to see if either can be used on the SS.. I suspect the regular 7" can (assuming I've got the 5/8" arbor) but am not sure about the dado, which is fairly small -- perhaps 6"?
