Are the pumpkins relief carved, or is that all in the paint job?

WOW! Beautiful sign, Gary! Your intarsia looks terrific, as usual. Don't know how you did the painting, but that doesn't matter. It is simply gorgeous!:D

I have the same question. Is it like a puzzle with the pieces glued in?

Pretty much so. Each segment is cut like a puzzle out of blocks of basswood. Then the pieces were individually sanded to reduce the thickness and rounded with a dremel. After painting the face of each piece the puzzle was glued onto the redwood backing. The bats and leaves were cut on scraps resawn to 1/8 inch. The moon and clouds were 1/4 inch stock, also from scraps. It's time consuming, but allot of fun.
