Maintenance Alert (Bearing Lubrication)
Moderator: admin
Attached is a Word file for the maintenance table I worked up. I apologize that I wasn't able to convert it to a PDF file. But, if you do have Word, you can type in your serial numbers.
Also, my wife worked up a business card size table which I keep in my wallet. It lists the sizes of supplies for each tool, ie 10" circular saw blade, 72" bandsaw blade, 6"x48" belt sander. That way, no matter what store I am in, I know what I need to pickup.
I hope this helps.

Wow thank you for the great chart. The card sounds really handy as well. JimLodgepole wrote:Attached is a Word file for the maintenance table I worked up. I apologize that I wasn't able to convert it to a PDF file. But, if you do have Word, you can type in your serial numbers.

When I went to pick up my pool pump motor today, from the motor shop that does my motor work, I asked about the bushings that I discovered to be in the Crafter's Station motor.
He was not surprised at all that there were bushings and not bearings. He warned thought not to allow them to go dry. He said that when operated without periodic oiling they will last a long time but will then fail suddenly with little or no forewarning.
He reports that many small motors were built this way in the past but that very few are done that way now. He doubted that Emerson makes this motor today but was unable to confirm that because the motor data is proprietary.

Maintenance Alert (Bearing Lubrication)
I have lubricated the motors on my Power Station and Crafter's Station. It is as simple a job as it sounds. It would be a real shame if a motor was damaged for wont of oil.
Since the Power Station is so old and has never been oiled before, I will oil it again in a couple months. Hopefully I will not have the occasion to post bad news regarding a failed motor.
The motor in the Crafter's Station is less than a year old but I oiled it as well.

Emerson Motor
I have an Emerson 1 1/8 HP motor from a Mark V 520 that has the bushing on one end. It has a 6203 (17mm ID, 40mm OD) bearing on the sheave end. There is no oiling hole anywhere on the end plate for the bushing. There was the cotton looking stuffing all around the bushing that was oil soaked. This is the first bad motor I have seen. It was actually on fire while it was running until it shorted out. If anyone is interested in seeing a really burnt motor, let me know as I have a few pictures as I disassemblied the motor.dusty wrote:When I went to pick up my pool pump motor today, from the motor shop that does my motor work, I asked about the bushings that I discovered to be in the Crafter's Station motor.

Burnt Motor
No, I do not know or could even guess what caused the fire but the motor appears to have been operating when it caught fire as the was a smoke trail out of the motor and motor pan. I plan to look more closely to see if I find any cause. First one I have been unable to repair in over a dozen non-operational motors. This motor has the bushing on one end. I am still resizing the pictures to fit but got this one done.dusty wrote:Bill, do you know the cause of the fire? Electrical or mechanical.
Yes, please do post those.
