? On Rip Scale Upgrade Parts

Hi,

I have just upgrade to the 520 Pro Rip Scale (via eBay) and I received a cuple of extra parts that I have over (see attached image)

Can someone tell me what they are used for (alignment perhaps)?. I see them listed at the SS site http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/catalog/RipScaleUpgrade.htm along with a smaller piece (which I dont have)

They are used to set the distance from the top of the table to the top of the rails on a 520.

These make short work of aligning your tables. Guard them carefully as the tables require alignment periodically. Jim

The instruction sheets that came with the upgrade kit instruct one to use them differently than is depicted here but the principle is the same. They are used to set the height of the rail with respect to the table surface.

Incidentally, the actual distance is unimportant. Consistency at all locations, along both the front and rear rails, is what is important.

I suspect that the small part shown on the Shopsmith site that you did not receive might be the fence indicator bar. This is a plastic piece that attaches to the bottom of the fence and helps read fence position on the new scales. I believe the part number is522287.

Thanks all, that helps alot. Also it explains why I had so much trouble getting the floating tables alaigned with the main and extension tables. Tomorrow I'll redo the aligment process withe the tools.

Not sure if I understand where the long scale goes, does it extend from the main accross the floating table/s, if so wouldn't it be hanging in the air (i.e. unless the tables were all pushed together)?

Yes, it often hangs over clear air when tables are separated. I now get it set and make a small pencil mark on the rail at the "0" mark to reset it quickly for when I inevitably lay a hand on it.

I can only tell you where my long scale is. I attached two small magnets to the wall next to a window in my shop. The long scale is hung between those two magnets.

I find very few opportunities (needs) for the long scale.

My wife is sick today so between the Dr. and Rx runs, I never got a chance to try the new table leveling process (maybe tomorrow), in any case I'm feeling comforable with the new upgrade now.
