One of my sons is a BIG starwars fan. His 3 year old daughter can name just about anything related to starwars.... wonder how that happened. Bet you can guess what characters they come up with for halloween...
So back to 2010.
I have been working though design constrains and what parts I can find off the shelf. I had originally planned to use a larger dia. light saber but then came into some problems so I reduced the size and even purchased the 2" faceplate. I have since did a minor redesign and now can and will go with the larger size again. Are you confused?
OK, the purpose of the lathe faceplate is to drive a cylinder, in order to do that it must slide on a 5/8" shaft and then be attached to a drive "wheel". Here are a couple of pictures showing a 5/8" shaft passing through the faceplate and then a shot of the hole pattern on the faceplate from the front side.

Anyway the 2" version is now going back to life as a 2" faceplate and a new 3" version has replaced it for this project. The next picture show how they will mount together, that being the faceplate and the "wheel". I plan to use 4 screw between the faceplate and "wheel" more for balance then need for that much drive power. Hope I have the right size and length screws in stock so I can continue on this project without going to the hardware store.

Slowly but surely things are starting to come together.
