As I was trying out my new Talon Chuck my speed controller died a horrible death:( Since it has been noisier than I think it should be I decided it was time for bearings. When I got to the quill assembly I found that both the quill and drive assemblies have groves worn into the shafts, as if the dust in the grease of the quill housing were grinding the metal down.
Does anyone think this may cause problems? I wouldn’t mind changing to a 2bearing quill and the poly belt but the extra funds are not available right now.

I wouldn't worry about what I see in your pictures. Those look to me to be normal wear marks and nothing to get excited about. I did not see any serious grooving in either of those pictures.

I just had mine completely apart and had the same type of striations on the shafts and it is now running like a top.
