Server not found AGAIN...

I have noticed in the last few weeks that there are times when I can't get in. When it happens I just try later. I know today I tried twice and got the errors but 3 other times everything went fine.

I think it is matter of timing is why some people aren't seeing it.

In the last 8 hours give or take a few minutes I have been here 40 times and not a single problem. I'd keep going but its late...

What ever paths I have in the network to shopsmith they are not seeing any major problems.

Ed I think you are bragging. Yes like others I envy you. Many of us appear to lack your touch for getting into the discussion group. My resident IT expert spent two hours last evening trouble shooting our computer system. Our issue is not on this end. The problem is originating somewhere else. Jim

The intent is not to brag but since some have been pointing fingers at shopsmith then we should all have seen problems... not the case.

From what I can see it is a network error... it would be interesting to know if it is all coming from the same server/router/switch or if it is more wide spread problem.

Of course some people (not you Jim) may have local issues that they are also dealing with which makes this even worse for them.

For any of you who have been trying the google dns servers, I've abandon that for now. I still get better performance from my local isp dns servers. For those who might want to experiment you can read about it here:

I have personal used these and what I have installed on my computer... this is not to say that there might be better ones or more complete ones but for my budget of $0 they are just fine.

Yes, Visualware is a very good program to deal with what we are discussing. As Ed has pointed out, there are more powerful tools available but they come with a price tag. This free package works well for the non-commercial user.

Following are two traces of the shopsmith.net link; one shows a functional link and the other an inoperative link.

Note that the big difference between the two is that one shows NO LINK thru the firewall into 24.173.75.51 while the other (Good Link) does not depict the firewall and the packets reach 24.173.75.51. I may be wrong but I believe this indicates that when a problem exists on my link to shopsmith that the problem is within the shopsmith server. The rest of the link behaves normally.

I have been in contact with the webmaster and they are working on the problem.

Wow... I have gotten on 3 times out 5 attempts this evening...

I'm sure Shopsmith is doing all they can to find the bottleneck and as long as I can get through now and then I'll survive.
