I do regret starting my check early but maybe that is because I am greedy. If I had waited, my entitlement would be greater than it is today. Yes, I know that I have drawn a check for three years longer than if I had waited but I plan to live long enough to make up for that.
After much work using Excell and various scenarios the break even point for social security is 77. At 77 most people will have recieved virtually the same amount whether they started SS at 62 or 65 (66 for most boomers).
After 77 those that start at 65 (66) will receive more however the total difference at age 90 is less than $60,000 or around $180 a month for those that started at 62.
I don't know if that will make you feel any better or not.
