Not to worry! If the charger was only delivering 10A at 9V, the 12V battery would only deliver about 1/3 more Amperes.

That IS what I determined. I also dug into the charger.:( What a pandora's box! A wire was loose causing intermittent output, a limit switch was also cycling on/off(the 'clicking') and it was also erratically making/breaking contact for a couple of minutes prior to clicking off.

I also determined that the surface area and distance affects current draw.(That IS what we expected).

What has been learned! If you are going to derust items with large surface area (> 2ft² closer than 4 " apart, you will need a very heavy duty power source(>10A @ 12V). I was trying to do TWICE that much!!!
