Mine is not either, but does it matter as long as it is still conical? As you have shown, you set the table using a square. If necessary you can make adjustments to the table angle when using the jointer/planer knife sharpening jig. Yes, that is certainly possible but there is no bubble. I have checked this without paper installed and get the same reading.dasgud wrote:is it possible there is a bubble or high spot right there to affect the reading?

My conical disc is also just shy of 3-1/2°. Wixey just resolved just how shy. Where this comes into play is obviosly setting the table angle. I use a square to set it perpendicular the actual angle. If however you setting the table based on an assumed angle of 4°, it would be wise to verify it.

BUT what does it measure more towards the edge of the disk?
SS 500(09/1980), DC3300, jointer, bandsaw, belt sander, Strip Sander, drum sanders,molder, dado, biscuit joiner, universal lathe tool rest, Oneway talon chuck, router bits & chucks and a De Walt 735 planer,a #5,#6, block planes. ALL in a 100 square foot shop.

It ain't 4°! It is 3+°. The dimensions of Nick's thickness sander jig in a saw dust session ends up at about 3.2°.
Why SS insists on perpetually calling it 4° is a mystery(or they be like an ostrich).
Accept it! That IS the way it is! Use square to set table, and move on!

I also corroborate the conical disc NOT being 4 degrees. I didn't try my Wixley, but my gauge under table is set exactly to 0, so I just counted back 4 lines... I'm assuming, of course, that this gauge is somewhat accurate.
Regardless, I was getting a setting at a little over 3 degrees. When I tried 4 it was very easy to see that the results were not square.
That is why I have come here!! LOL - to see if I was doing something wrong. It was my first time last night using this thing. And WOW - I love it... I just had difficulties setting it up.
I'll have to measure out further on the edge of the disc. I tried USING the outer edge and it was burning the wood - I even slowed down the disc more.
no Swirls - but there are slight "lines" like a belt sander might produce. Maybe there was some pitch or resin stuck in there - or an imperfection in the paper. It was NEW however.... Anyway - 5 swipes in my hand with some 220grit and they were gone.
Also on a side note - If I take off too much stock - a LOT of dust is created and it totally doesn't go in the vacuum shroud!
