Miter gauges from pre-owned shopsmiths

I'm noticing something about the two miter gauges that came with two pre-owned shopsmiths I purchased. In both cases one of the previous owners had a little problem...

I wonder just how many times this has happened out there in the home workshops. Now I know none of you ever did this but those of you who look at / purchase pre-owned equipment how often do you see this?

I knew you were going to ask this question and I know how much fun it is to see these when some one else did it, so I made one like that just so some day I can provide a laugh for some one. It is really not as hard as you might think, especially with a good SS blade.

With the old Mark 5 table with the 'extra' saw slot, ya kin mess up BOTH sides!:D Believe me it happens without you realizing it until too late!

I have two miter bars for jigs, now. Expensive bars, too.
Don't ya just hate that sound when the cut off blade contacts the gauge?:eek:
Two mistakes in 30 years? Not too bad.....if those were the ONLY ones:D

Yep,
My brand new 24" miter guage extention like the one Nick had in his sawdust sessions one end had been nibbled off by a blade. This is the extention that you can adjust from site to side and when I did a mitre cut I did not judge the blades path very well.

PS
Aluminum does do a nice job of gleanng a blade of pitch and such when you do cut into it.

Wow!! I always thought the extra slot on the main table was to allow for ripping certain widths (prior to the intro of the wider extension table). Looking at the picture, it looks like the slot is used for crosscuts, crosscut bevels and dadoing in addition to ripping. It is good to continue learning something new every day.]

Yes you CAN do those things, but just do NOT use the 'nearest miter gauge slot'!

Hey this is about 'creative' solutions to present 'problem(s)'.

P.S. Be careful with any 'newly acquired knowledge'. At least until full comprehension is achieved!
