Second poly-v makes sense!

Wonder how much of this is accurate?

I am betting pretty much so!

Retaining 1.6 ratio a surprise, but economics makes sense. Wonder about jointer bearings!!! I predict recommended speed will remain the same. Wonder how speed will be referred to re high-speed shaft???? Me thinks '500' will be the recommended 'setting'.

I had a short conversation with SS customer service this past Thursday. Asked when we would see the Power Pro. The response was ". . . look for an announcement on the web site by the middle of next week." That would be around the 16th.

Hey guys;
There was some discussion about how to adjust the motor drive belt tension on the new headstock. The easiest way to do this, (my opinion only) is to utilize a design from the old VW air cooled motor generator pully. This was a split pully and you remove the outer nut to remove one half of the pully and then transfer some shims from the area between the pully halves and put them under the nut holding the pully halves together. This increases the effective internal diameter of the assembly and tightens the belt.

I did find that Mark 7 idler bearing posting:

(which suggests 5/8" bearing I.D.)

So at least the New Design appears to have thickened the inner parts of the idler-shaft beyond 5/8" (0.625") -- to 17mm (0.669") at the bearings, and thicker yet between the bearings. This is probably deliberate, since Bill Mayo reported a similar progression on the 2nd Quill bearing design.

Probably deliberate since bearing manufacturers produce 5/8" bearings for 'existing applications only'. They do not have any desire to produce non-metric bearings for new designs.

When you look at Tool Hunter's depiction of the new PowerPro you see two black areas. One directly above the motor and the other on the idler shaft. What are these?

Also, if we can take these images as being close to reality, the idler shaft depicted there is shorter than the one I just received (pictured earlier in this thread). Also, the pulley that services the upper part of the second poly-v is larger than the other pulley. This would imply to me that the two shafts are NOT rotating at the same speed.

This whole thing is funny. There is really nothing new except an variable speed motor that is electronically controlled.

We just might be able to get a retrofit kit for just a few dollars more than the cost of a replacement motor and I just might be inline to get my own.

I have been thinking that way almost since Nick released his peek preview.

I find the information re voltage/horsepower interesting. Somewhat inconsistent with previous info.

Dick, in Post #22 said look for an announcement next week (of when we would see the Power Pro). He didn't say he was told the company will be releasing the Power Pro next week!

Since we are all making guesses -----

Maybe the announcement will be asking for testers.

Maybe the announcement will tell they have given up on releasing this year.

Maybe, as we hope, it will be available soon.
