I was checking out the 20" and 24" Aluminum Miter Extensions (556005 and 555429). I searched the archives for comments addressing the pros and cons of these extensions but found no writeups/evaluations.
Those that have one or the other or both can you please share your experience/comments?
I have an older Model 510 unit
Thank you

Buried in the forum postings somewhere there are some discussions about these items. Maybe not a lot because the subject matter is just not that exciting.
However, I do have the 24" extension and I find it to be a vary useful table saw accessory. It is easily installed and removed and greatly increases the control that one has over materials being cross cut. Especially longer pieces.

I make my own out of 3/4 Baltic birch ply, sandpaper and t-track. Easy to do and you control length and you can move them to best position on the miter gage.

This is a very good idea. I'm headed to Rockler tomorrow to get some "T" track. Thanks!

SS Aluminum Miter Extensions
I guess I can assume from the responses (or lack of) very few have purchased these miter extensions and almost everyone builds their own.
Dusty, thanks for your comments regarding the aluminum miter extensions. If there were some drawbacks I am sure comments would have been piling up
Thank you

The lack of discussion is not indicative; I know that there are several members of this forum who have and use them. Eventually there will be more comment.
There is a practical need for the miter fence; however. Even if ity is just a piece of wood tacked to the miter face - you are safer using one on longer pieces than doing without.

Right after it's introduction, I purchased the Incra V120 miter gauge with Shopsmith's pistol grip. I made a plywood extension but in order to get a precision stop for angled cuts I purchased the V120 adapter plate (556121) and the 24" aluminum extension (555429).
The mounting holes in the aluminum extension did not match up well with the adapter plate so I drilled and countersunk new holes in the aluminum extension.
I now like the V120 with the 24" extension so well that I find myself reaching for it rather than the original Shopsmith miter gauge.
