Shop cleaning

They don't do much for cleaning the shop but when they are around I don't have problems with spiders.

A tarantula is NOT a spider???? It IS an arachnid! Ain't THAT a spider???:D

In any event, Dusty can have them ALL!

Cobweb webs wood be easier to clean up than MUD, like some of our friends in Calf. might have to do.

My shop is in western PA and I don't have a spider problem. I did have a lot of yellow jackets in the past, only a few last summer. I think I finally was lucky enough to spray their entrance. They would hang around the corners and I think they were getting in just under the roof.
It's a 400 square foot, stand alone wood building with a pitched roof. It had been unused for about 5 years, and I did my best to dust and vacuum all around the edges and eaves when I first started using it. There were several yellow jacket/wasp nests up there.

Yes, I suppose there is some basis to argue that tarantulas are spiders. But even if they are, I consider them protected. I am thankful, each year, when I see evidence that they are again returning.

Many of the critters that were native to this area are slowly disappearing.

When I moved into my house, I was way, way out of town. Now the town has moved way, way beyond me. This residential movement is driving the critters away.

When my folks bought the base part of this farm in 1951 we were 3 miles out of town. Now the north west corner of my farm is less than a half mile from the city limits. Once rented fields across the road that I worked until about 1960 are now all houses. Thankfully the ones closest to me are quite nice multi-story homes on 8 to 12 acre lots. The large lots help reduce the impact. Still, it is now a different world. I maintain several small wooded areas, a small pond, a creek and keep building small brush piles etc. to help keep a lot of wildlife here. I would like to reduce the coyote and raccoon population a little. Everything else is encouraged or tolerated (including "outdoor" spiders). From the look of the tracks in the fresh snows we must have 3 or 4 million rabbits.

They look like spiders to me. If they aren't spiders what are they?
