This was in a damp basement looks to have been being used by a mechanic for a work table.

OK I cannot stand to have a tool that I am afraid to touch for the grime. I have a large vat that I can soak and clean all this in. Any recommendations for a cleaner that will not affect the aluminum?

Does anyone want to look up the build year while I go get some Evaporust and some blasting sand?

I guess that I should explain that this came with both a mark 5 and a 520 table set up. I would be confused by the pictures in the previous post.

March-April 1985 Mark V/500 converted to 510(510R) then 520? Wonder where the rest of the 'leftovers' are?

Annnd the rest of the miter gauge?

My 520 upgrade kit came with a 510-R add-on label. Did not do a 510 intermediate step.

Thanks JPG it turned out to be a very long day. Every thing is cleaning up better than I thought. I sandblasted and primed the legs today. I dissembled the headstock and cleaned and checked everything. I am having trouble getting the speed control adjusted. Every thing is in good shape but for some reason I just cannot get the low/high speed adjusted.

It has what I believe to be the original Shopsmith belt. I do not have a new on on hand but plan to order and replace it soon. I'll watch Nick again to see if I can figure it out.

If the belt is worn(narrow) the belt will be riding differently on the pulleys. A narrow belt will cause the High Speed adjustment to be 'closer' to the point of interference with the speed control.(screw backed out further). That will cause the travel limit(slow position) to go below slow. Also the floating sheave is closed more when the belt is at high speed.

Best to have the belt closer in than the 'recommended instructions with a new belt'. This should place the set screw closer to the top of the jam nut.

IIWM, I would set the HS setscrew to be flush with the top of the jam nut and do a HS adjustment with a 'fresher'(correct) belt.
