LOL not looking for cheap parts, but when there's a choice between a US and Canadian vendor it's often less expensive and faster if you can avoid paying international shipping, exchange rates, duties and extra taxes or fees and extra stops at the border.

Understand - The only Canadian business selling SS parts purchases them from ss for the same price as the rest of us! i.e. They are not going to be 'cheaper'!

Part price and final purchase price are different. For a typical online purchase from a US vendor it breaks down something like this:

Part price (49.95$) + Sales taxes (variable) + Shipping to Canada (30$ or more) + Duty at the border (variable) + Exchange rate ( 1 US = 1.10 CND very variable) = 87.95$ or more with taxes and duty and arrives in 5 to 10 business days with international ground US postal service shipping

From a Canadian vendor selling the same parts:

Part price (54.95$) + sales tax (7% or more) + Shipping (20$) = 80.20$ no duty, no exchange rate and arrives 2 to 5 business for general ground Canada Post shipping

So even after a markup for a Canadian vendor's costs the final purchase price from a Canadian vendor usually comes out cheaper and gets here faster, even when the parts come from the same original US source. Many people get caught by those factors when looking for "deals" online and end up paying more when they thought they were getting a deal and the reverse is also true. Buying from a Canadian source when it would be cheaper to get it from a US supplier. I just don't want to pay more then I have to.

That's why i was wondering if there were any Canadian distributors or resellers so I could compare the difference in final purchase price and shipping times since I've never had to buy Shopsmith parts before. So if someone knows of any I'd love to hear about them, and I'll be calling Shopsmith next week to find out about shipping to Canada in the meantime. I don't have a complete list of parts I'll need yet, still more cleaning and inspecting to do so I can get it in one order instead of paying extra for multiple smaller shipments.

Any tips on how to properly remove the pin in the headstock lock handle?

A pin punch!...may save some grief later to just buy a pin punch of the correct size. Using make shift tools can become a pain. If you damage that pin before you get it out, it may not come out. I speak from experience.

ask for "Greg". Only reseller I know of here. I have had numerous orders with them for smaller items (over $450 worth) and am happy with their service. Prices are higher but free of hassles like border broker fees and arrive fairly quickly via snail mail.

I have had good luck with several US sellers who were prepared to ship to me via USPO, Skip Campbell here:http://mkctools.com/
for example. I avoid couriors like UPS from the US because of the fees.

The motor and the rest of the headstock cleaned up and took the quill apart, it was pretty clean in there already and no rust inside.

This is shaping up nicely. Great job cleaning and refurbing. Are you going to convert the quill to dual bearings? If so please post those photos, because I will do it too if I know how.

Thanks, a little cold to continue with the cleaning using mineral spirits outside today, it's a very chilly -4F outside.

With a list of parts I need to replace to get everything in working order getting longer I plan on just replacing the existing bearing and see how it works out first.

After a weather delay in cleaning, and starting on fixing up my band saw in another thread, I got some more pieces cleaned up

Only the main table and aux table legs are left to really clean, and I can deal with those later. I'll be trying to fit all these pieces together and start my list of replacement parts to order including a new quill bearing and speed changer.
