I would have her buy a nice table/dresser runner as wide as the top and long enough to hang over the ends a little and wait until I was ready to do a restoration. I don't believe that any parts are going to jump off and run away. :)

I did not equip with Shopsmiths in spite of the setups but because of them.

I agree that I'd wait. That would also serve as a GREAT learning piece. Who knows, you may even decide to bulid something else outa the material in the dresser! Now I bet THAT would be something for the wife that she would want to keep! jimsjinx
If you are a part time band leader, does that make you a semi-conductor? Where do all the "unguided" bombs go?

I'd leave it alone and add the runner that Farmer suggested.

Leave it alone until ya can do the full restore. Ya don't want to add to the problem.:)
SS 500(09/1980), DC3300, jointer, bandsaw, belt sander, Strip Sander, drum sanders,molder, dado, biscuit joiner, universal lathe tool rest, Oneway talon chuck, router bits & chucks and a De Walt 735 planer,a #5,#6, block planes. ALL in a 100 square foot shop.
