Being bothered by someone with 16 items in the express checkout lane is a small thing.

Being bothered by what someone wears in church is a small thing.

Being bothered by who fails to stand during the national anthem is a small thing.

When I find myself doing those things that I was taught not to do and never used to do - now that is NOT a small thing.
16 Does not bother me - 36 does!

Church attire is not even a small thing.

Standing(respect) failures are more serious(usually due to ignorance which ideally should be remedied). Problem is, by whom?

Doing now what once was a no-no indicates an acceptance of the new order. Being concerned about it indicates non-agreement with the new order. That be an individuals choice.

One's own 'standards' are the big things. One cannot act for others, only one's self.

Today is June 1st.

Did you know that if you were there in 1938 on today's date, you could have bought the first glimpse of superman in issue #1. I think last year, a issue number 1 copy was found and sold for over 1 million dollars. In 1938, you would have paid 10 cents for the comic book.

Any forum members here have one by chance? I will give you a quarter for it :D

I used to have a lot of Superman comics. I had issue #1 of Supergirl. I was hoping to find them and all of my stacks of 1950's and 1960's baseball cards when I emptied my dad's house, but only found about 5 or 6 baseball cards. There went that million!

Off topic
Radio just mentioned the US goes further into debt 40k per second.
I 'm not well educated, but it does make you think. If I borrowed money every second of every day, wouldn't I go bankrupt without question? I could cheat and cut corners and shift things around (Peter and Paul) but eventually I would HAVE to go belly up. Mathmatically isn't this true? I'm wondering if in my lifetime with the economy, national debt, social security ect. I will see some MAJOR events reshape our economic system.
Doesn't this have to happen?

I may have opened a bigger door than my question

I heard something similar the other day. They threw in the figures of what medicare and social security are losing and how soon they will be gone. I think medicare was around 2024 and social security 2036 before both are completely bankrupt and no longer have the funds to even pay their workers.

I imagine that if you are alive for the next 20 years, you will see major changes. I try not to worry too much as it will drive me crazy. I will be in the same boat as everyone else. I am not going to horde gold in hopes for bargaining. That will all be gone in the first few weeks for food if everything collapses. So horde gold, and survive for 2 extra weeks. nah, I would rather turn that gold into food before hand :) Anyway, alot may change but somehow, people will survive and life will go on, different but it will. but heck, what am I worried about. the world is ending on October 21st. Or is it 2012. Geez, I just don't know anymore

All this talk about reducing the 'deficit'. IMHO we are way overdue reducing the 'debt'. That was my 'opinion' over 40 yrs ago. The hole is much deeper today!

General Learning

Post by smittythefatguy »

Evening all. Just joined in here to learn a few things.....not sure where to post this.....so here I go......My dad was given a Shopsmith II Serial number 87227. it works well, lathe is missing end stock holder and centering pin. Table saw is...well to say the least a trial and error to get a straight cut off of and I'm working on a straight clamp jig to stop the wandering and off 90 degree thingy.
Any information would help.....age of this unit...ummm...where to get parts.....do Mark 5 parts fit II's...or is it called SSII????....so as you can see any information wold be helpful here.
