DC for the OAR

My OAR is the older, free standing unit. I've been doing a lot of pattern work lately and I'm really getting frustrated by having to stop every so often and vacuum the area. And I NEVER get it all.
Have any of you that use the free standing unit, come up with a way to attach a 4" DC hose to the unit so that it's out of the way during the routing operation. Most of my patterns are around 26X26, or so. Consequently, I can't anchor anything to the back side of the table.
I'd appreciate any help.

How about a photo so we can get a better look of the situation.

I know my standalone OPR had a rear shield that had dust collection on it, and my new one has one as well. If yours didn't come with one, then you might want to fashion one. I can post a photo if you want.

Another option might be to either adapt one of the clear router shields, or fashion something similar for yourself. The OPR scenario is pretty similar to a CNC type setup, so you might investigate what the CNC folks use as well.

Thanks for your reply. It dropped off the "New Posts" section before I got to see it. I just this morning found it.
I'd surely be interested in any photos or ideas you could provide. Mine didn't come with any sheild or DC capabilities. I can't see where it could even be attached near the router.

Here is the parts breakdown on my OPR that I have posted on a couple of other threads. As you can see it had a shield and capability to hook up a 2-1/2" hose. The shield and dust collection parts or similar ones for the current OPR should be available from Shopsmith. That being said, there have been a number of occasions where the dust collection connection has interfered with what I was trying to do.[ATTACH]13449[/ATTACH]

The number listed on the parts breakdown (515146) doesn't seem to work, so I emailed SS direct.

I suspect that the assembly number (515146) may have changed with the new OPR. The individual parts of the assembly (dust chute, brushes, etc.) show up online.

Like professional sports teams, you can't tell the players without a program. Shopsmith parts numbers change and you can't tell what's what without a manual.]

Gene,

I would just get the chute and the brushes. The wire hanger and the short section of hose are a PITA, however, you do need to support the hose so it doesn't put too much stress on the tabs of the plastic chute. I strap the hose to the support arm with a velcro strap.

You should also make sure you have a chip deflector. See this thread:
