Make sure you align the tail stock center to the drive center. You may have caused the round eccentric to move while 'banging on the floor'.tadd wrote:Thanks for the helpful info. Hi Tad! Although "they" say not to use a metal hammer to free the tail center, I have found a couple light taps with an 8 oz ball pein hammer frees the center every time. A word of caution - If you do this type of removal, have a well padded hand to catch the center when it comes out. Man!!!! that point is sharp and you don't want it falling point first onto a hard floor.
If you have the live center mounted in the tailstock, ( "C" in your picture) you can unscrew the bearing and point before removing.
