#1 I don't like the idea of metal near my router bits
#2 MDF is a wonderful material that can be made to perfect sizing
#3 MDF is cheaper
#4 I am a cheap SOB who would rather spend my money on another Mark V
(as long as the wife is not looking, I have 4 Mark V's
#5 In production you are more likely than not to start carving this sucker MDF is much better.
It is amazing to me that people would even consider something like this unless they have no experience at all. This is not intended to be a slight to anyone.

I love tools... Any tools...
But, I will continue to mark corners with all sorts of stuff and trim them down and sand to a line. I often use coins (if I have any
), a roll of tape, a spray paint can or about anything else round. The size chosen according to "what looks good".
Maybe some day I will run across a set at a yard sale for a dollar and buy them just to mark with (or look nice hanging on a hook).

I did not equip with Shopsmiths in spite of the setups but because of them.
