Is the 885586 supposedly a Shopsmith part. It is certainly not a part used in my bandsaw.

Beats me. Looks like that info was his first 2 posts. I'm looking at that bearing on eBay, when I get a chance I'll take a look at one in a bandsaw, can't really tell anything from the parts diagram.

Yes, it appears to be the lower wheel bearing that he has found a non-Shopsmith version that can work. Note below that he had to grind the end of the shaft so that he could attach the drive hub to it in order to match the original Shopsmith part. So, it is not a simple drop-in replacement, but it does work according to him.

Assuming he has a SHOPSMITH bandsaw.

Considering all the details described, I would CONCLUDE he WAS referring to a SS bandsaw. I know you/me, but I think low risk.

I went ahead and ordered one of those bearings from eBay. If it's not compatible I'll find something else to do with it.

I want to try that out. That bearing takes a lot of abuse. There's the tension from the blade on it, when running and idle, and any misalignment of the shaft in the coupling is putting a radial load on it also. If it it fits well, I'd like to hear what it sounds like with the bearing fresh.

As far as I know, the term 'water pump bearing' means that a shaft forms the inner race of a double row ball bearing, and those are commonly used in automotive water pumps. Anyone know if there is more to it than that?
